Free Romanian Government Scholarship 2024
Every year, the Romanian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offers a number of scholarships to citizens of countries outside the European Union. Only candidates who have achieved good results in education, respectively with average years of study, for the last school graduated, at least 7 (seven) corresponding to the Romanian registration system or “good” result or 70%, as the case may be, are eligible to apply.

Please note that scholarships are not awarded in the fields of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
What level of study does the scholarship cover?
· Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree programs are intended for graduates of secondary studies or pre-university studies at the end of which they have obtained a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent, as well as candidates applying for further university studies in Romania. The full program lasts for 3-6 years, depending on the specialization pursued, and ends with a bachelor's examination.
· Master's Degree: Master's degree programs are directed to undergraduate students, run for 1 year, 1.5 years, or 2 years and end with a thesis examination.
· PhD: Doctoral programs are directed to postgraduate students or equivalent and run for 3-5 years, depending on the profile of the chosen faculty and end with the submission of a doctoral thesis. To be admitted to doctoral studies and receive the scholarship, it is necessary, before applying, for the candidate to obtain written approval from the doctoral teacher, who must be a member of the doctoral school, and also to pass an admission interview.
What is the language of study?: To promote the Romanian language and culture, beneficiaries of scholarships awarded by the Romanian state for undergraduate and master’s studies study only in the Romanian language. The exception is holders of doctoral scholarships, who can choose studies in Romanian or a foreign language determined by the doctoral school. For candidates who do not speak Romanian, a preparatory year of study of the Romanian language is granted before actual university studies, with the exception of holders of doctoral scholarships who have chosen the form of education in a foreign language determined by the doctoral school.
Documents required to complete the file
· Copies of diplomas obtained (baccalaureate diploma or equivalent, in addition to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, if available) and their certified translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if available.
· Transcript of grades for the academic stage and its certified translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if available.
· A copy of the birth certificate (or equivalent document) and certified translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if available.
· A copy of the first three pages of the passport or national identity document and a certified translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
· CV in English or French.
· For the doctoral course, the candidate needs to submit a letter of intent containing a list of scientific works, specialist publications and a detailed description of the proposed research project, as well as the approval of the tutor, who must be a member of the chosen doctoral school. Both documents must be written in English, French or Romanian.
· A copy of the notarized declaration of parental consent in the case of candidates who have not reached the age of 18 by the start date of the courses and a certified translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
The results of the scholarship selection process will be announced via email, on July 15, 2024 to each candidate who applied for a scholarship.
In Romania, the academic year usually starts on October 1. Universities set their own calendar, in accordance with the principle of university independence. Host universities may also decide to take specific measures regarding the teaching and learning process, in accordance with public health guidelines. Romanian authorities may impose additional public health requirements. The scholarship obtained, including the preparatory year where applicable, consists of: financing of tuition fees.
Financing housing expenses in housing, through the budget of the Ministry of Education, within the limits of the subsidy allocated for this purpose (accommodation will be provided within the limits of available places).
Monthly financial aid grants, as follows: the equivalent in “li” (Romanian currency) of the amount of 65 euros, for undergraduate and preparatory year students; The equivalent in “lei” (Romanian currency) of the amount of 75 euros, for master’s students, the equivalent in “lei” (romanian currency) of the amount of 85 euros, for doctoral students.
